How do I know that we are good candidates for divorce mediation?
Divorce mediation is appropriate for most people who are divorcing or have family disagreements. Most marriages have conflicts and communication issues that have contributed to the impending divorce. Usually these issues do not prevent successful divorce mediation. The divorce mediators are skilled in helping the couple negotiate despite these types of issues. What is needed is a commitment to the divorce mediation process and a willingness to be open and forthcoming. If the couple cannot resolve all of their issues in divorce mediation, they can bring the agreements that have been made in divorce mediation into an alternative process for resolving unsettled issues.
Divorce mediation may not be appropriate in cases of domestic violence, active substance abuse and significant mental illness. Consult with the divorce mediators if you have any questions about the suitability of divorce mediation in your situation.
